Known until 2003 as Karjean Ng, Karjean Levine is a native of Downtown Manhattan and graduate of
New York
University- Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Photography (BFA, with Honors). Based
in New York City, photos have appeared in publications worldwide.

I have always lived within a 1-mile radius of where I was born and grew up (the Lower East Side, Chinatown, & the East Village), and still enjoy the energy and diversity of NYC immensely. When I was a kid I thought I might become a writer, but at 15 I got my hands on a camera and never looked back.

I attended LaGuardia High School of Music and Art, which I have very fond memories of for its inspired creative atmosphere and memorable cast of characters; at NYU, I studied with Fred Ritchin, Tom Drysdale, Sylvia Plachy and many more luminous artists- walking distance to my family home and the city at my feet, a photographer's dream! After college, I photo-assisted for a few years, learning from some of the best and brightest like Mark Seliger (who put up with me for 2 years at my greenest and taught me not only how to light but taught this native New Yorker how to drive!), Alen MacWeeney, Frank Ockenfels, and legendary photogs like Mary Ellen Mark and Eddie Adams whose work we studied and emulated in college.

I have been fortunate to create photos on assignment for a wide variety of publications, from business to human interest to music magazines, as well as custom publishing and corporate PR. I am mainly a portrait photographer, but I really do love to photograph just about anything!
